Phosphate coating is a chemical conversion process that forms an adherent crystalline layer on a prepared metal surface. Depending on the specified chemistry and finish, it can support paint adhesion, temporary corrosion protection, lubricant retention or controlled running-in behaviour.

PICSA defines the complete treatment route around the component material and required outcome: incoming inspection, cleaning and preparation, phosphate chemistry, rinsing, drying, any specified post-treatment and final verification. The applicable phosphate type, coating weight, appearance and acceptance tests are confirmed for each scope.
